E-Quadrat Education & Science launches Beyond Rankings: a community for educators and HE enthusiasts

5 March 2024

We are all about data and evidence, and we understand rankings - they help to keep up and confront. But we are also very much aware of Goodhart's law: "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure”. The university realm we value and cherish is more complicated than any number on a chart that describes it.

To embrace this approach, we are launching the community Beyond Rankings and inviting you to join us and set the agenda together: invite dedicated and inspiring speakers, study your real-life cases, and share best practices. It's our input to fellow professionals in higher education in their endeavour to keep up with the endlessly changing world yet preserve the precious traditions that are so important to universities.
What we offer our community members:

  • Online meetings and webinars: every month we will get together to discuss the most pressing issues for educators. A topic and the main speaker will be suggested by the organisers or members.
  • Every meeting consists of a short talk/presentation and an open discussion (off the record!).
  • 1-to-1 meetings: we will offer 3 complimentary 30-minute slots after every webinar to look into your cases related to the topic of the webinar.
  • Access to our library and resources: as a member, you will get early access to our research insights and in-depth analysis on various topics beyond rankings written by our experts.
  • Networking: as with all professional communities, you will meet a lot of like-minded people from the industry and get an opportunity to share best practices and seek advice.
Our first webinar
Save the date! Our first webinar is scheduled for
March 13, 10:00 am (CET)
A Strategy of Healthy Growth or Pursuing Numbers?
and it will be led by our experts:
  • Dr. Olgun Cicek
Senior advisor on internationalisation of higher education, quality assurance, accreditation, and global rankings
  • Dr. Alexandra Borissova Saleh
Senior expert in science communication and marketing, third mission, and reputation strategy
The title speaks for itself - we will talk about why we love rankings, and how they can be helpful to HEIs, but most importantly we will try to understand what is there beyond them and what other priority areas one should look at before shooting for the stars and aiming to get into the precious top-100 range.
